Email relaying is using an email server to send email that did not originate on the email server. Email relaying is a Feature Activation and can only be enabled on Professional, Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions of Salesforce.

Companies set up email relaying to:

1. Route all email though their own email servers to avoid the appearance of Salesforce

2. Strip all Salesforce related headers from email headers.

3. Remove 'no-reply@salesforce.com; on behalf of' from email address

4. Send email out of whitelisted and clean ips to avoid email being sent to junk mail.
