Croogo CMS is an open source system that is built with power and flexibility in mind. It is free to download and use and is easy to get up and running. The CMS is built using CakePHP, which is popular right now and good for quick coding changes and has other benefits as well. It also allows you to use either a MySQL database or a PostgreSQL database, which will be helpful for some webmasters who either want to use both or like having the option to choose what works best for them.

While there are some very nice benefits about this platform, there are also some significant drawbacks. For example, the as of this writing (January 26th, 2016) latest release was version 2.2.2, which came out in April of 2015. There aren’t too many sites built using this system compared to many of the others either, which can limit your ability to see it in action.

Initial Setup
Getting your site up and running is very easy. If you are using one of our hosting packages you can just click on the install button and your site will be up installed in just moments. Once done you can get in and make any initial configuration changes that you would like. Most people won’t have any trouble at all getting everything set up the way they want it.
Plugins
They don’t offer any plugins on their own site, which is disappointing. You can find some on third party pages but even that isn’t too easy. Most CMSs today have a section on their site for in-house and third party plugins, which is something Croogo should consider doing.
Themes
Themes are surprisingly easy to manipulate with this platform, but if you just want to download and install one, you’ll have trouble finding what you want. They don’t have any published on their own site and most major theme sites don’t offer them either because this platform doesn’t have too many people using it.
Customization
Due to the limited number of plugins and themes it will require more direct effort by users to get things customized the way you want them. They do use CakePHP, which most developers can easily use so if you have experience with that, you can customize the site to be just the way you want it. They also have quite a few settings and configurations you can use to adjust the way your site looks and performs.
SEO Friendly
There is very little information available about what this site does for on-site SEO. From what I can tell, they don’t really have anything significant that will benefit your search engine rankings, though you won’t likely get ‘slapped’ by Google either. If you want to rank well, make sure you are manually handling all your on-site SEO or look for a good plugin.
Cost of Running
This platform is completely free to use. I didn’t find any paid options, plugins or themes so it seems that even if you wanted to, you couldn’t pay for the site. The coding is quite good so you can save money by using a good shared hosting package, which is very affordable.

Final Thoughts

To put it simply, there are better content management systems out there to choose from. This one has some very nice features, but nothing that would really inspire you to choose it over some of the more well-established options. With some development work it could become a very nice option but as of today, most people will want to opt for something else.
