Silver Stripe is a smaller CMS that is quickly becoming quite popular. In 2008 it won the ‘Most Promising Open Source CMS’ award and it continues to get good updates and many new users. It was even chosen as the platform for the Democratic National Convention’s website. There are many nice benefits to this system, but for many people the best thing will be just how simple it is to get up and running. You don’t need to have advanced technical skills or a lot of coding knowledge to run a site well.

The platform was originally developed by people from New Zealand where it remained fairly local for some time. As people found out about it and it was released in additional languages, this platform continued to gain more and more followers. While it is still nowhere near the largest or most popular option out there, it is certainly becoming a respected option for both new and experienced webmasters.

The Silver Stripe website has a very helpful database with instructions on how to complete most tasks with their platform. This database is searchable for easy use.  Security – There are some very nice built in security options to help you protect your site.

Initial Setup
You won’t find a CMS that is easier to get set up and running than Silver Stripe. The actual installation can be done with just a click or two when you use the install scripts included with all our hosting packages. After the install is done you can have your site configured the way you want it in just a few minutes. Just about everything you need to do is covered on just one install page, which makes it extremely easy for new users.
Plugins
Plugins are really easy to use and install with this platform. While you won’t have trouble finding plugins, they don’t really have a huge library of them available. This does mean there are some limitations on what you can do with this site. If you need something specific that isn’t already out there, however, the site is coded with PHP mostly so making your own plugins is not going to be overly complicated.
Themes
Finding themes is going to just be a matter of searching for them and choosing your favorite one. There are quite a few out there, though not as many as with some of the more popular CMS’s. Installing a new theme is quite simple and almost never requires any type of coding changes or file manipulation, which is nice. Even the newest users will be able to get their site looking the way they want with themes.
Customization
While you can certainly make changes to the site using plugins and themes and things like that, real customization is a little lacking. They didn’t set this platform up to be modified extensively by the users (though it is open source so you can get in and do it if you really want to). Most users will just want to use the platform as is without too much customization.
SEO Friendly
The developers of Silver Stripe clearly had SEO in mind when developing the platform. Right out of the box you will have a very strong SEO system in place that will help you to rank your site. There are additional plugin options available to choose from if you want some specific change, but most people won’t even need to do that.
Cost of Running
This program is completely free to use and every plugin and theme that I have run across are also free. The code is clean and efficient so you’ll be able to opt for a lower level hosting package than would be possible with most other CMS’s based on the visitors you’re getting. A good shared hosting package is inexpensive and will run this type of site easily.
