I do not think email hosting is cheap. Do you own a blog? Do you own a online business? If not, don't do email hosting unless it is absolutely necessary.
E-Mail hosting isn't that expensive. Many web-hosts will provide email hosting free with their packages so you could buy a cheap package for the simple purpose of e-mail. It would give you email's @yourdomain.com.
Also, you can get hosting relatively cheap with companies that offer e-mail only hosting. If you're not using email very heavily I would recommend going the web host route.
