HOWTO Fix Ubuntu using IPv6 addreses

New Member
Hi all!. If Ubuntu seems to be stuck trying to use an IPv6 address when it should be using an IPv4 address
(happens with apt-get , dont think anything else)
look for this "precedence ::ffff:0:0/96 100" line (54) in /etc/gai.conf and uncomment it,
will immediately fix the problem and repos will all resolve with IPv4 addresses

Although the adoption of IPv6 addresses was slow from 2009 through 2015, it has accelerated in recent years. As of 2019, 26% of users accessing Google do so via an IPv6 address [Source]. Each Dedicated Server from OVHcloud is assigned a /64 block (1 subnet) of IPv6 addresses, which is 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 (18 quintillion 446 quadrillion 744 trillion 73 billion 709 million 551 thousand and 616) addresses.
