updating php

hello -

i notice my centos box is running PHP 5.3.3 which is the latest version yum has. 5.3.3 seems a little outdated.

any opinions on upgrading php? i dont necessarily need the new features, but there is talk of the newer versions running faster.

i did find a suggested rpm update to php:

rpm -Uvh http://mirror.webtatic.com/yum/el6/latest.rpm
yum remove php-common # Need to remove this, otherwise it conflicts
yum install php54w
php --version # Verify version has been upgraded

If its centos, 5.3.3 is the standard for version 6.5. All fixes are backported.

Sometimes another php version is offered, check yum search php

IF not, you should consider sticking with RPM's. Someone on centos 6.5 recently used REMI rpm repo to add php 5.5 to replace 5.3.3.
