Step3. Let’s build the website using WordPress
Now you have successfully installed WordPress on your hosting account! You can access the admin panel of your brand new WordPress website using the following URL structure.
Do not forget to replace your domain name in this structure. When you’ll try to open the admin panel of the WordPress, you will be asked to enter the username and password.
Enter the WordPress dashboard login credentials that you have provided during the installation of WordPress to log in.
Now you are in the admin section of your WordPress website. From this section, you can manage, personalize, customize and manage everything on your website.
The simple way to get started is to create a page from Pages>>Add new. This will create a new page in WordPress. Please refer the following on how to create a page in the admin dashboard.
Just add simple text contents and images at the moment. You can later edit the content or add more contents to get a better look. At first, let’s create the website layout for your business website by creating some basic pages.
These are the pages often used in a compact business website layout.
• Homepage: This is the foremost welcome page of the expected website. Besides, add your business name with a call to action to your services/products/contact page respectively. In addition, a concise description of why your customers should opt-in for your services will be informative.
• About us: This page should include all the detailed information of your business before customers can make a decision. An ‘About us ‘ page must help your customers to understand who you are, what are your ethics and the relevant experience you have in your field.
• Services/products: This page includes the catalog of the services/products you put forward. Heading accompanied with a brief note is considered to be mandatory for the betterment of understanding. Moreover, pricing or ask to contact you for a quote is preferable on this page.
• Contact us: It depicts the contact details. So that you should put a contact form for the users. You must also add your business’s physical address which will show the genuineness of your business.
You can add many other pages in addition to the above for the better way of conveying your business information. For example, you can create a separate page for your business products, FAQ… etc.
Now you have the layout ready. It’s time to give our website the look it needs. WordPress comes with a default template/theme which is most common, we can opt for any different theme as there are many free and paid WordPress themes available. Some of the best WordPress themes are mentioned in the following list. Or you may visit the official WordPress business theme page here: https://wordpress.com/themes/business.
• Interserver Platinum ( Developed by InterServer )
• Atmosphere Pro
• Digital Pro
There are a countless number of themes available in WordPress’s theme repository. Based on the style that would suit your business you can select the theme from Appearance>>Themes>>Add new.
Now you will see lots and lots of themes available for Free, Select the one you like the most. You can also filter the themes if you can’t find the one you need in the list. You can select any theme based on the criteria. Once you have selected the theme, you can click on the “Install” button given on each theme. In this case, we are going to install a free theme called “Mise” which is a free theme and it has everything you need to get started with WordPress. Search “Mise” and click on install.
Once installed you will have to click on “activate” to activate the theme. Please note the install button would change to activate button once the installation is complete.
Once you activate the “Mise” theme, you’ll see the following dialog box. Click on “Get started with Mise”
This will bring you to the “Mise” customization page. This is actually a WordPress beginners paradise. They have documented each and everything about their theme and how to customize. You can click on “Theme Customizer” to manually customize everything. You can click on “Documentation” and there you can see all detailed instructions to manage this theme.
Since you are new to this, I’d suggest you import the demo contents first then customize. For this, first, go to “Plugins >> Add New.” Search for “One Click Demo Import” and install this plugin.
Once you have installed and activated the plugin, go to your WordPress Dashboard under the “Appearance-> Import Demo Data” and click on the “Import Demo Data” button. Please click on the Import button only once and then wait for the process to complete, it can take a couple of minutes.
Only import the demo content to the new websites with no content. This is to avoid filling the website with new pages and posts that could create confusion with existing content.
That’s it! Now go to your home page and you will see your site exactly like this: https://crestaproject.com/demo/mise/
It’ll have a slider, About Us, Services, Team, Contact form and everything you need for a business website.
This has almost everything you need for a business website. While the main menu, widgets, and some parts of the theme (like the site logo) must be set manually. That is also very easy to do. Go to “Appearance >> About Mise >> Theme Customizer”. From here you can change contents or customize everything you can see in the demo page. If you have any doubts, you can click on the Mise Documentation section.
See, it’s that easy to set up a business website with InterServer!
