How to Install Plesk for Windows

Plesk is a hosting control panel that allows an administrator to develop new websites, email accounts, reseller accounts, DNS entries, and more. Plesk offers a web-based interface, and it is compatible with both Windows and Unix based commercial hosting servers. You can follow different methods for the installation of the Plesk in Windows. Some of the methods by which you can install Plesk in Windows are:

  1. One-Click Installation
  2. Using Installer Console
  3. Using Installer GUI

 

One-Click Plesk Installation for Windows

The one-click installation is a hassle-free and fast method of installing the Plesk server with the default configuration. To install Plesk in one-click, follow the below steps:

Log in to the Windows server via RDP. To know how to connect to the server using RDP, refer https://www.interserver.net/tips/kb/remote-desktop-windows/.

Download the Plesk installer by using the following link: https://installer-win.plesk.com/plesk-installer.exe.

Open the Windows command prompt and change the working directory to the directory in which the Plesk installer binary got saved.

Run the following in the command prompt to install Plesk for Windows.

> plesk-installer.exe --select-product-id=panel --select-release-latest --installation-type=recommended

The installer downloads the latest stable version of Plesk release to your Windows server with the default configuration and features. This above command applies all the available updates and patches to increase the performance and security of your server.

The installation only installs the basic components and features of Plesk, but you can always add or remove different components to the installed Plesk. But if you want to have control over what components get installed, then you can perform the Plesk installation via console or web GUI.

You need to perform the post-install configuration on your server after the Plesk installation.

 

Installation of Windows Plesk Using Installer Console

To install specific components of Plesk on your server using the interactive installer console, then you can follow the below steps:

Log in to the Windows server via RDP.

Then, download the Plesk installer by using the following link: https://installer-win.plesk.com/plesk-installer.exe.

Open the Windows command prompt and change the working directory to the directory in which the Plesk installer binary got saved.

Launch the installer console by running the following command in the Windows command prompt.

> plesk-installer.exe --console

Install the latest preview of the upcoming Plesk release by using the following command.

> plesk-installer.exe --console --tier testing

Install the latest or earlier version of Plesk by using the following command.

> plesk-installer.exe --console --all-versions

The above command opens an installer console. Read the details carefully mentioned in the text ‘IMPORTANT’ before the installation.

If you are ready for the installation, then type ‘N’ to move to the next page of installation and click the ‘Enter’ key to proceed.

In the next page, you can perform two things, and they are:

  1. Set the directory to which all the downloaded files get saved by the installer. By default, the path in which the installer stores the downloaded files is ‘C:\ParallelsInstaller\parallels’.
  2. You can select the source of the installation files from the three options. By default, the source file gets downloaded from the Plesk servers. The three options from which the source of the installation file gets downloaded are in the below screenshot.

When you are satisfied with your selection, Type’ N’ and click Enter to continue to the next page.

In this page, you can set the proxy server address, if you are installing Plesk on a Server behind an HTTP proxy. Also, you can set a username and password for this proxy server. Then, type ‘N’ and press ‘Enter’.

On the next page, select the version of Plesk that you want to install. If you want to install a different version of Plesk, then you can run the installer with different options, such as ‘–tier testing’ or ‘–all-version’.

Select the installation type as Recommended, Full, or Custom types.

  1. The Recommended installation type includes all the necessary components and popular features required for web hostings, such as web server, mail server, database server, and more).
  2. The Full installation type includes all the features and components of Plesk.
  3. The Custom installation types help you to pick the components and features.

Configure the additional settings, if any, and type ‘F’ to go forward and press the ‘Enter’ key to begin the installation.

After the installation, perform the post-install configuration on your server.

 

Installation of Windows Plesk Using Installer GUI

Log in to the Windows server via RDP.

Download the Plesk Installer.

Open the command prompt and change the working directory to the directory in which the installer binary got saved.

To launch the installer GUI in the default browser, run the following.

> plesk-installer.exe --web-interface

To install the latest preview of the upcoming Plesk release, run the following command.

> plesk-installer.exe --web-interface --tier testing

To install the latest Plesk version, run the following command.

> plesk-installer.exe --web-interface --all-versions

This above command opens a GUI installer in the default browser. Select the desired language and log in using your administrator username and password to proceed with the installation.

After the login, you can see a GUI welcome screen. Click the ‘Install or Upgrade Product’ option to install Plesk.

To change the installation settings, click the ‘Updates source and installation settings’ tab. Make the necessary changes and click the ‘Save’ button. On the ‘Updates source and installation settings’ screen, you can perform the following:

  1. Select the source of the installation files.
  2. Set the directory to which the installer saves all download files.
  3. Configure HTTP proxy server’s address, login name, and password.
  4. Modify the installer interface language.

After making the changes, go back to the welcome screen and click ‘Install or Upgrade Product’ to proceed with the installation.

Select the desired version from the drop-down.

Next, select the ‘Installation type’ and click ‘Continue’.

On the next page, set additional settings, such as the Plesk installation directory, the path for storing user data, the path for storing web site content, and more. Then, click the ‘Continue’ button to proceed with the installation.

After the installation, perform the post-install configuration on your server.
