How to Install uTorrent server on Ubuntu Server?

uTorrent is the most popular torrent client available in Linux systems. uTorrent downloads files very fast and efficiently.

 

Install Required Packages

Before installing uTorrent on our system, we need to install required packages using the following commands.

sudo apt-get install libssl0.9.8:i386

 

Download uTorrent

Download uTorrent server source code from its official website.

$ cd /usr/src

$ sudo wget http://download.utorrent.com/linux/utorrent-server-3.0-25053.tar.gz

 

Extract uTorrent

To extract the downloaded archived file using the following command.

$ sudo tar xvzf utorrent-server-3.0-25053.tar.gz

$ sudo chmod -R 777 /usr/src/utorrent-server-v3_0/

 

Create Soft Link

Create a soft link to uTorrent server to systems bin directory.

$ sudo ln -s /usr/src/utorrent-server-v3_0/utserver /usr/bin/utserver

 

Start uTorrent server.

Use the following command to start uTorrent.

$ utserver -settingspath /usr/src/utorrent-server-v3_0/

 

uTorrent will start on port 8080 on the local system.

Open the web browser and connect to the below URL:

http://your.system.ip.address:8080/gui/

Username: admin

Password: (keep it empty)
