How to Manage Ban List in SMF

SMF is a forum management software that allows you to create and manage forums on servers having low resources. It has a very powerful administration panel that allows you to perform various important tasks very easily, like creating a new board and adding a new language.

It powers many forums online. If you are managing a forum, you might have experience with people who come to a forum just for spam. They create irrelevant content on the threads to create backlinks and they do harm the whole forum.

To deal with this issue, you can use a ban list in SMF. So, what is a ban list? In SMF, you can create a condition in which a user will be banned for a specific time that you decide when you create a new ban list. If you cannot understand what exactly is a ban list, do not worry. In this tutorial, we will create a simple ban list, that way, you can learn about it practically.

How to create a new ban in SMF

So, let us get started. Login to your SMF admin panel and click on the Admin option from the main navigation bar. To make it easier to understand for you, we will attach a screenshot for every step.

In the admin section, you will find a new menu below the main navigation bar. It will contain options like Main, Configuration, Forum, Members and Maintenance. Hover over the Members option and click on the Ban list option from the drop-down menu.

On that page, you will find a list of active bans. To create a new ban, click on the Add New Ban option under the Ban list section of the page, just like the following image.

Now, you will see a form that will allow you to create a new ban. Enter the name of the ban, the reason that a member will see under the ban, notes, expiration, restrictions, and triggers as per your choice. In simple words, we are creating a condition in which a member will be banned.

After entering all the required information, click on the Add button given at the bottom-right corner of the form. It will create a ban and the ban will be active.

How to modify and delete a ban in SMF

You can also modify a ban in SMF. To do so, go to the ban list in your SMF admin panel. From that list, click on the Modify option corresponding to the ban list you want to modify.

Now, modify the ban according to your requirements and click on the Save/Add button given at the bottom-right corner of the form. This way, you can modify a ban in SMF.

If you want to delete a ban, go to the ban list, Select the bans you want to delete and click on the Remove selected button given at the bottom-right corner of the table.

It will instantly delete the selected bans.
