Manage Customer Group in Magento

Every eCommerce website has many types of customers. Some order in bulk and some of them need some extra discount and some of them are free of taxes. To provide good services to these groups of customers, eCommerce platforms like Magento provides the interface to manage customer groups. Using customer groups, you can provide some kind of service to the group members.

It is a very handy feature. Magento provides us a way to manage customer groups in our eCommerce store. In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to create and manage customer groups in Magento. With Magento, you can easily manage multiple customer groups along with the tax class they belong to. So, Let’s get started with the tutorial.

Magento has an easy as well as a fast user interface. So, creating a customer group is a very easy process in Magento.

First of all, log in to the admin panel of your store. Then, click on the Customers option given in the main menu bar. It will show you a few more options related to customers. Click on the Customer groups option from the drop-down menu, just like the following image.

Here, you will get a list of all the customer groups available in your Magento store. To create a new customer group, click on the Add New Customer Group button. Refer to the following screenshot to locate the button.

It will redirect you to a new page that will contain a simple form with one text field and one drop-down menu to select a tax class. Enter the required information in this form as per your requirements.

To save a customer group, click on the Save Customer Group button given on the top-right corner of the section.

To edit a customer group, click on the customer group from the list of customer groups. It will redirect you to a page on which you can update the customer group information. Update the information and click on the Save customer group to finally update the information in the database.

In case if you want to delete that group, just click on the Delete Customer Group button given beside the Reset button. Refer to the following screenshot to understand the update and delete actions for a specific group.
