Media Temple to InterServer Migration

InterServer provides cPanel control panel to manage your websites through a useful friendly user interface, through which we can host and manage unlimited domains plus email accounts easily. Our Standard WebHosting package comes with cPanel control panel to manage your websites, the migration process between cPanel to cPanel is very easy. However, in case of Media Temple to cPanel migration is not that much easy. But don’t worry! Our Sys Admins will do the Job on behalf of you. All you have to do is take the backup of both website contents and database from the Media temple and upload it to InterServer account. As you know the Media Temple provides their own Grid like panel to manage your websites, which doesn’t have a built-in backup functionality. So generally you will need to back up your website data using an FTP client such as FileZilla to your Local system. You can have a look at our KB to know how to transfer files from your hosting to local system or vice versa at https://www.interserver.net/tips/kb/using-filezilla-to-upload-a-website/

Once the website data backup stored to your local system, the next step is to take the MySQL database backup from Media Temple. Now-a-days, more and more sites are database driven and you need to upload the database backup too in order to migrate website completely. In this scenario, the effort is same as they don’t provide any feature to backup database individually. The option is to take the MySQL Database backup via phpMyAdmin, you can follow our KB at https://www.interserver.net/tips/kb/how-can-i-backup-my-mysql-database/

Once logged into the Admin tool of the “Manage Databases” section of the AccountCenter at Media Temple, perform the following steps:

1) Select the database you’d like to back up from the column on the left.

2) Click on Export from the top set of tabs.

3) Select the tables from the list that you would like to backup. If you want to back up the entire database hit “Select All.”

4) Select Structure and data from the bullet list.

5) Check the Add drop table box if you are moving the database to a new location and don’t want to merge the old table with an existing one.

6) Click the Save as file box.

7) Use the Save as file zipped if you want to compress the backup before downloading it from the server.

8) Click the “Go” button. When prompted, save the file to your local computer.

Once the backup generation completed, you will need to compress the all folder into a single zip folder for uploading everything easily to your InterServer account. Once done, you need to upload this backup zip file to your InterServer cPanel account either via cPanel’s File Manager feature or via FTP client such as FileZilla. You can have a look at our KB for how to transfer files over FileZilla to your account at https://www.interserver.net/tips/kb/using-filezilla-to-upload-a-website/

Once it is completed, you need to open a ticket for restoring the backup file so that our support team will do the restoration for you. You could open a ticket from your Client Portal at https://my.interserver.net >> Support >> Open New Ticket. Also, if you need to restore any particular domain only then please mention that scenario clearly on your ticket. Our support team will get back to you shortly via ticket regarding migration process.
