Webmin HTML File Manager

For a customer, it is not much easier to access files to make changes or to delete the same using the terminal, so on most of the Control Panel comes with the option and it is called file manager which allows you to edit, create, and manipulate files and directories on your system. The file manager implemented with all options that are available through the command line. It comes with all the options like create, open, edit, view, print, play, rename, move, copy, delete, search/find, and modify file attributes, properties, and file permissions.

 

1) Login to Webmin interface.

2) Click “Others” tab in the left sidebar of Webmin.

3) Select the option “File Manager” and it will show up a screen listing all the files and directories.

Operations that can be performed in the file manager.

When you load the file manager, you will see the contents of the root directory on your system, or the user’s home directory, depending on who you are logged in as. To access the directory listed on the file manager by just single-click on it. Like that you can able to return back to a directory by clicking on the left arrow at the top-left of the file manager.

 

1) Creating files and directories.

We can create a file by clicking “File” then “Create New File” and you can enter the filename on the window appears.

We can create a directory by clicking “Create New Directory” and you can enter the name on the window appears.

We can upload files and directories from the local servers.

 

2) Editing file permissions.

To do this, select a file or files from the right-hand pane and click “Tools” then “Chmod Selected” or “Chown Selected” in the toolbar. This will bring up a permissions window. In the chmod window, you can select the appropriate read, write, and execute permission for the files and you can select the user and group you want as the owner for the file or directory in the chown window.

 

3) Viewing, editing and renaming files.

We can rename the files by selecting the file and click on the option “Rename”.

The contents of any file on your system can be displayed and edited by clicking the “Edit” option after selecting the file.

We can download the files to the local system by clicking on the filename.

 

4) Moving and copying files.

To move files to a different directory, select one or more and click the “Cut” button on the toolbar. Then paste the selected files by navigating to the destination. The Webmin will prompt you to rename the pasted file to avoid the clash If a file with the same name already exists on the destination. You can overwrite the existing files if you are not choosing to rename the file.

To copy files, select them in the right-hand pane and click the “Copy” button. Then paste the selected files by navigating to the destination.
