A complete tutorial on WP Rollback plugin for WordPress

Remember the time when you updated a plugin and it broke your website. It is a very common issue. When a developer releases a newer version of plugin or theme, they may not be production ready. If this happens, you have to somehow recover from the situation where your site is broken. You have to take your site back to normal as soon as possible.
In this situation, the best thing to do is to downgrade the plugin or theme to the latest version that was working with your configuration. To perform this action, you have to uninstall the existing plugin/theme, download the version you want from the repository and replace the files on server. However, this is a lenghty process however you execute. WordPress plugin repository contains a plugin that enables you to downgrade/upgrade themes and plugins to whatever version you want.
You can simply change the version of a plugin or theme directly from the WordPress dashboard. Not only the theme and plugin version, but you can also change the version of WordPress itself. It is an awesome feature in case if you are experiencing bugs in the latest version whenever the update comes.
The name of the plugin is WP Rollback and in this tutorial, I will show you How to install and use this plugin in WordPress.
How to install WP Rollback plugin in WordPress
Step 1: First of all, log into your WordPress account dashboard with your Username and Password.
Step 2: Then, click on the Plugins tab that is available in the left-side tab section. See the following image for reference.
Now you will see a list of installed plugins in your WordPress
Step 3: On this page, you have to click on the Add New button. You can find the Add New button on top of the page as well as the left sidebar.
Step 4: Type the plugin name “WP Rollback” in the search box.
Step 5: Now, find your correct plugin from the Search list that is WP Rollback. Your Plugin will be available with the name of WP Rollback with W text icon with black colour. You can see the Plugin’s icon in the below image. Click on the Install Now button, you can easily find the Install Now button on the Plugin box as you can see in the below image.
After the installation process is complete the Install Now button will change into the Activate button.
Step 6: You have to click on the Activate button to activate your downloaded plugin. It’s Mandatory to activate the plugin for further use.
Step 7: Once the plugin is active, you will be redirected to the installed plugin page and you will see a success message just like the following image.
The WP Rollback plugin is installed and activated. Now we can use the plugins to change the verisions according to our requirements. Now, Let’s see how to do just that.
How to use WP Rollback plugin in WordPress
Step 1: log in to your WordPress account dashboard with your Username and Password.
Step 2: Now click on the Plugin tab that is available in the left-sided tab section as you can see in the below image.
Step 3 – Installed Plugin List: Click on the Plugins option from the left sidebar to see a list of installed plugins, just like the following image.
Step 4: According to the below image you will be able to see the Installed Plugins. There are three options given that are: Activate, Delete, and Rollback.
Activate/Deactivate:- You can use this Activate/Deactivate link to activate or deactivate a specific plugin.
Delete:- This link will help you remove the plugin from WordPress.
Rollback:- Rollback will download and replace your current version with the version you select.
Step 5: Then, click on Rollback of your plugin to change your old version to a new version.
Step 6 – Available Versions: When you click on the Rollback link, a page will open on your screen. Here you can find the available versions of your plugins, as well as you can all find your old versions of your plugins as shown in the below image.
Step 6 – Installed Version: After that, the highlighted area of the following indicates the installed version of your plugin.
Step 7 – Upgrades: The versions you see above the installed version are the upgrades. You can one of these versions if you want to upgrade the plugin. You can see the following image for reference.
Step 8 – Downgrades: Now, the highlighted area of the below image are the Downgrades. It means reverting to an older released version of WordPress as you can see in the below image.
Step 9: Click on the one of the version. We will learn more about that version of the plugin.
Step 10 – Change Log: After that, click on the required version. You will see a View change log option just beside the version number. Usually, you can click on it to see the changes in the version.
Step 11 – Version Details: When you click on View Changelog option below that Version Details a new box will open on your screen, this detail box will show all the changes and new features that were added to this version as you can see in the below image.
Step 12: After reading all the information about your new software version, and if you want to change the version then click on the Rollback button that is in blue colour at the end of the page as you can see in the below image.
Step 13: Similarly, If you don’t want to Rollback the version. Then, You can click on the Cancel button. The Cancel Button is available at the end of the page. Just Beside the Rollback button as you can see in the below image.
So, this is how you can use WP Rollback plugin to change the version of the plugins and themes anytime.
